Outdoor Space x 2

An Enclosed Porch under an Open Deck?  Yes, you can!

So many times we see people with beautiful decks that wish they could also have a covered sunporch or patio in the same space.  Yet decks are designed to drain, so how is it possible to create an enclosed sunporch underneath that deck?  Here we used aluminum soffit, a product which allows the ceiling of the covered enclosure to serve as a giant gutter system.  The gentle slope of the room’s ceiling channels moisture from the deck above down to the actual gutter at the far wall of the room.  There it is carried away to a traditional outdoor downspout and away from the foundation.  The ceiling soffit is made in such a way that it resembles the car siding that was used for porch ceilings many years ago.  Here it creates a smooth and attractive surface that is durable and immune to moisture.  The homeowner styled this space with wicker furnishings, a porch swing and an outdoor ceiling fan, creating an outdoor space for quiet relaxation three seasons of the year.
